Well guys... I love you all to death but I can't see any other way to say this nicely, so I will just do it.
Bakersfield poker club is just that... a club. A group of people that gather together for the same reason, and are organized. A club is a community and requires community involvement... period! The current level of involvement has not been spread evenly through all of our "members". What do I mean by this... there are services provided by players, jobs if you will, that have to be done every week, over and over again. Dealing, shuffling, managing the pot, picking up soda, making food runs, cleaning up skittles poop, cleaning up the garage and throwing out trash. The same stuff needs to be done every week.
First of all, who is a member? The first two or three times you show up you are a guest, and everyone should be nice to you, but by the end of the first night no one should be catering to you. After your third visit in a row you are now a member, you have voting rights on what games are being played and on how rules are enforced. If you continue to show up sporadically you are a club acquaintance (Dan85) you really do not have any say about anything but we will let you play with us and lose your money.
Who cares who a members is? Well I do, because this is a club... it is not "Bowenstein's Home Game". That means that you are not all my guests that I need to entertain and cater too. It is a gathering of like-minded individuals who can run all of the systems independently. We all know that this is not "Bowenstein's Game" because commonly I do not get the final word on rulings, decisions, or game choices. I also do not even participate in half the weekly events. They are run autonomously by other "club members", other sporadic events pop up that are not run by me and so on and so forth.
So now that we know that a club exists and who is in it, let me ask you a few questions if you are not too busy. Should club members leave trash laying around in their clubhouse? Should club member complain about performing services for the club? Services that make up the mainstay of the club activities, such as dealing, shuffling, trash pick up, restacking chips, putting away cards, picking up beverages and food. Should club members sit in their centrally located positions completely stoned and totally ignore thousands of requests to pass chips to winners of pots, and cards to volunteer shufflers? Should club members who are performing a function for the group, such as dealing stack their own chips from the pot they just won before getting new cards out for the next round? Should club members threaten to leave when they do not like a ruling or a game chosen? Should club members harrass guests, who are potential future club members because of their "horrible play"?
For goodness sakes! Maybe I have just been in, or organized more, clubs than the rest of you, but I feel like a lot of people who meet the criteria of club member just show up, set their hand on the table and wait for cards to hit them, so that they can play like they are in a freakin casino. Well, the lack of shared responsibilities, the arguing/whining/complaining, and the level of filth and disregard for my personal property have led me to think that maybe this group should not exist at all. Since no one out there apparently even thinks, or acts like there is a "Club" then I don't even need to disband it... I am just saying that I am not inviting anyone to my house for a while. The outstanding invitation to a Thursday game does not exist anymore. The outstanding invitation to a Tuesday night game does not exist anymore. Done and done!
Hey if we are just a group of guys that get together at my house to play and I am hosting it then I am going to be a little more choosy who I let in.............
BTW if anyone is interested in buying the poker table it is up for grabs for $500 which is what I put into it.
If you got a game going somewhere give me a call... I would probably like to play.
PS... Skittles... Do not try to boil anything in this email down to a single triggering event or situation. I have had the same complaints for the last six months, and no one has responded... in fact, people just got worse.

10/18/07 - Drunken Indians
Alright, I do not know what race McBeel (that is his new name) is but apparently he does not handle booze very well. The game was short of people early in the night so I started texting people to see who else we might get to show up. McBell showed up around 10pm. He got a ride from a friend because he was totally lit. Apparently he was playing down at the casino and romancing some of the waitresses, till he went broke for $500, the bartender cut him off, then they asked him to leave. We were 'lucky' enough to have him show up at the game after this. Normally he is quite, a good sport, and friendly. Drunk, he is the exact opposite of this. I am wondering if he will apologize for the was he acted. Even though I was very entertained by the way he was acting he was very slow and took up from about 28 hands and hour down to 21.
The first thing McBeel said to me when he sat down in the game was, "Hey Bowenstein, you know how you normally insult people and act rude?" I replied, "Yes, nothing is different tonight." He said, "Well if you say anything out of line to me tonight.... I will knock you out!" I was very amused and a little scared. He then proceeded to suck up half the chips on the table. He started with 100 and ended the night up 345 after only playing for 4 hours.
The whining from Skittles is getting out of control. I have tried every response possible to get him to stop and nothing works. The thing that works the best is reminding him nicely that he is whining way too much. This week I tried to yell at him to shut the hell up, and it did not even phase him. I got some more tricks in my bag for next week. All complaining ruins the mood of the game. It should be light and fun, no matter how much money is on the line. Our old group of people where a bag of laughs, but it seems like we are picking up more and more serious players who get seriously annoyed when people misplay.
DQ showed up and played for a couple of hours, picking up money pretty quickly then leaving to go to a welcome home party.
I don't remember a lot of specific hands from the night accept for when I got three big pairs and lost a lot of money on them. Early in the night I was up 100 and was playing well, but the big pairs cracking really got me in a bad mood. I only lost money on hands where I got it all in with the best hand and then got sucked out on. Late in the night I was in the game 100 and just could not get back up. I got it all in three times and won every time. But draws kept sucking the money out of me. Then Skittles bluffed me and Redonk out of a hand that I felt I should have called on. I ended the night down 55, which was a decent come back in my book.
The only other memorable hand was when The Bear raised preflop was reraised by Redonk, and then she rereraised, and redonk called. The flop came 9 high and Bear bet 30 into a 50 pot. Redonk did not want to lay his hand down, so I looked at both hands and Bear had AA and Redonk had QT off, a gut shot draw, and what he probably thought was 2 overs. Redonk eventually called the 30 then called all in on the turn, missed his gut shot and lost a 220 pot to the Bear. It was pretty sick! Sometimes you just have to let your get shot draw go.
A lot of loans got sent out by Skittles. Not as much as usual, but he is the only guy I know that can win almost every week and his wallet just gets slimmer and slimmer. Hey Vicky are we ever going to hear from you again.

10/14/07 - Sunday Night Losses
So I was excited to have a Sunday night game and apparently most of the other crew were as well. At about 9:30 we were playing 12 handed and it was chaos. I had taken some bad beats early in the night and by that time I was preoccupied playing with my new iPhone so I was just waiting for some quality cards.
Moe showed up which was nice. He has not been to a game in about two months. He has really stepped up his game. Said he has been playing a lot of low stakes online. I moved in with 23 suited shortly after he showed up and he had AA in the big blind. I was surprised that he moved in but he gave me a decent chance to put a real bad beat on him that I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to take advantage of. He played till about 11pm and left up 110.
I think I am going to change the way I blog on here from now on. Will probably just talk about highlights from the game from my perspective, and let others chime in with their own junk. I am really hoping that more people from the group start using this thing.
Pip was playing his usual aggressive craziness and got majorly out played by Redonkulatard. The board showed AQ7 all clubs on board. I do not remember who had raised it up preflop but the pot was about 20 and Redonk bet some rediculous amount like 3, Pip popped it to 8, I called behind with a pair of aces and so did Redonk. The turn brought the fourth club and redonk bet a decent amount. I had just made two pair but knew I had to throw it away. The river brought a complete blank and Redonk checked it. Pip moved in and Redonk immediately called with the nuts. It turns out that Pip had flopped the second nuts, and Redonk had played it perfectly... I am surprised and we all gave Redonk propers on the whole hand.
Pip finally got busted when he moved in for 36 under the gun and I snap called him with AK... I was pretty sure he had an ace, but I asked him if he wanted to play for less. He was a little frustrated and when I offered 12 he said just run it and turned up AQ. I won and he went home down 340.
Late, late in the night, around 2am I got busted by my wife on a sick lowball hand where she took a two card draw to A24, and I took a one card draw to A23j... I got a seven and she got a 36. She bet 15 into me and I moved in. I played very stupid and it makes me sad. She had been playing soooooo tight and snug all night and just blew up because I really wanted to double up and I had a great hand.
Shortly after that Skittles had picked two handed hold'em during dealers choice and very surprising hand blew my mind. There were only three players, Skittles, Redonk, and The Bear. From the big blind The bear raised both hands with 6.50, and got two callers. I was looking at Skittles hands and he called both holding 9T of hearts and 67 off. The flopp can 266 with two hearts. The bear bet 10 on each hand. I thought for sure she had two over pairs and did not know why she was keeping them both. Skittles threw the 9T of hearts and raised to 45 with the 67. The bear thought for a long time and called, but kept saying she was uncomfortable with the amount of money they were playing for. I looked at the hand she threw away and it was 77. The turn brought a 10 off suit. The bear checked and Skittles went all in. This is where the hand got interesting. The Bear does not play that often and I did not want to see her go broke here especially since she was up about 120 and I wanted her to negate some of my 250 loss. The Bear asked me to look at her hand, but I said I could not comment because I had already looked at Skittles as well. She had J6 of clubs. She asked Skittles for a deal and in usual Skittle fashion this is the deal he offered... She had to turn over her hand and he would either say that they could check down for 40 or his all in would stand. The argued back and forth and then The Bear agreed and turned over her hand. Skittles was very uncomfortable, and eventually asked if they could just check down. The Bear in relief about the amount of money just agreed. This is allowed because the deal was effectively renegotiated, but I think it was scummy on Skittles part. The deal was set and as soon as he got 100% of the information he weaseled out knowing that the bear had no intention of laying her hand down. A third heart came on the river and Skittles immediately started complaining about his bad luck even though he was up 200 and just weaseled out of losing an additional 100 and then an additional 40, because he had folded his flush draw. Talk about bad etiquette!
Taking advantage of people who are not used to making deals is a part of the home game, but we are working on eliminating it. It is clear that Skittles will continue to butt rape anyone he can for a whatever he can get as long as there is wiggle room in the deal making process. I am so glad DQ is coming back so we can finally vote in some rule changes.
It was a good night... I lost 250, and the bear made 220, so we evened out. For anyone that reads this beware that I will not be playing so loose early in the night anymore. Big double ups can wait till the end of the night when everyone is deep staked and playing right.
Finally, for all of you who have loans out but stay in contact with their debtors and keep the balance low, KUDOS! Shame on you Vicky.... Who owes more than 500 to Skittles and never answers his cell phone.

300 x 3.21 bitches
So I was thinking today when I was picking up a little winnings on my weekly online game (I usually just play once or twice on the college weekend, which is from Th-Sun), and I remembered the plan. The plan? you ask. Yes the plan!
The 2010 WSOP.
Sure Skittles has had his cash in one of the Omaha 8 events, and Drama (I can't remember Clayken's new name but I think that works well enough) donked off a k or two trying to win back money from the game. And I think I heard Stoney tell me once he's going to hit it up this summer probably.
But none of that means anything.
Because in 2010 we are hitting that shit up. The new fucking crew. Or whatever those idiots at ESPN think of.
My hope is we hit a bunch of events up. And get a couple cashes. Someone has to get a final table in there as the crown jewel. I don't care if it's fucking razz...
You know there's a bazillion sick gambling donks lying around. You also know there's juicy cash games. So work on your game and get ready!
Only (about) 963 days to get prepared for the onslaught. Just think of the movie 300; it's what you've been training to do for your whole life. Actually for me it's more like two years. But it will be 5 by then!
And for Dangle's article, that space could really use a pig. Or a dog. Or a dog fucking a pig. Honestly that gap is fucking huge lol.

10/11/07 - FUCK ASS SHIT!
I normally am not one to cuss, accept when someone majorly sucks out on me for a huge pot, but the club has a new slogan... Fuck Ass Shit! It must me said really fast as an exclamation when someone does something you do not like at the poker table. A big raise when you wanted to see a cheap flop... Fuck Ass Shit! A bet in late position after that scare card comes out... Fuck Ass Shit! A raise on the river after you have fired three bullets at a guy you thought was on a draw... Fuck Ass Shit! Now you know... use it! Enjoy it! Love it! Fuck Ass Shit!
Skittles got hosed. I do not think he was playing bad, but he was 1 for 16 on hitting draws. He did not get it all in draws too many times, and he was not really running bad, but when you miss a lot of draws it normally cost you a lot of money. I am pretty sure he was in near 400, but he ended the night down 340.
Pip showed up which was nice. I am never sure anymore. I am sure after the night he had, and all the Fuck Ass Shit! good times he will be back more often. I realized a lot of stuff about his play. First of all he bluffs more than I thought. I thought he was a luck box that hit a lot of flops. But if he smells weakness he just starts firing pot sized bets. That works a lot for him. He picks up so much dead money and/or weak money. When Pip starts betting it is hard to call him down with second pair, and if you do not hit your draw the pot is his. His reads are normally great. When he is on tilt he goes into payoff mode. The funny thing is that his stack fluctuates wildly, but if he tightens up his game a bit it does not have to. The payoffs and the lack of ability to lay down a draw for improper pot odds is severely hindering his overall play. Twice he called an all in bet with less than the nut flush draw... both times he hit it, but the bad pot odds is what is making his stack fluctuate, and killing his over big win ability. He gets big wins but not as much as he should. I think he is in the top 4 best players at the table in natural ability.
For most of the night we were both chip leaders so we avoided confrontations, but there were a couple of big pots. In one PL Omaha hand I thought I had flopped the a straight and the nut flush draw so I check raised the pot which was a 90 bet. When I rechecked my cards I realized that I did not have the straight but still had a lot of outs so I pushed on the turn, which was another 100. He thought for a while and called because the board had paired 9's, I asked if he wanted to play for less and he jumped on it. We turned a 275 pot into a 50 pot by pulling money back and he AA99 held up against all of my draws and top pair.
Time for some controversial hands. In Pineapple I flopped a gut shot sucker straight draw and a 6 high flush draw. The pot was about 25 and we all checked around. The turn brought the 8 which gave me the sucker straight, which I thought at the time was bad for me. Of course I checked it and it checked around to Skittles who bet about half the pot. I snap called, and then when Stoney over-called I knew my flush draw was no good. The river brought one of my sucker cards which lost Skittles a lot of money. It was checked around to Skittles again who bet 47. I wanted to call but I had a one card sucker straight against what I though was a bluff by Skittles, and it looked like Stoney was calling behind me. I folded after having the clock called on me. Stoney also immediately folded and I was mad that he did because one of the many reasons I folded was cause I thought he was calling. A short argument ensued, Skittles showed he had the nuts, and was sad about the river card and Stoney's false calling telegraph because he would have made an extra 47 off of me. I am glad it happened that way.
So the calling the original bet before deals are made rule is not official but most people are using it, especially against Skittles because he is so good about extracting information from people. In one hand I looked at AJ of diamonds in the small blind and after a raise to 3.50 from Dangles and three callers I was going to pop it to 15, which Skittles did on the button. I said, "That is what I was going to do!" and snap called. Dangles folded and two others called. I could definitely raise in this position, but probably should not have called in bad position. So I checked dark, which seemed like the right move at the time and really worked out for me. The pot is about 75 and it is checked around to Skittles on the button who bets 22.50 I immediately move in on a board of JJ2 after paying my props. Everyone else folds and Skittles thinks for a long time and asks to make a deal. I said, "You know how I roll." Meaning that I would not even entertain a deal until he called. He took about 3 mins and eventually called with 99. I did not make a deal and took all his chips.
I ended the night up 450, the pot was right, there were very few IOU's left at the end of the night, and I think things went very well. I am please with my play and my performance. I feel like I ran a little better than average, and held a lot of big hands when it counted. I was going to leave at 2 when I was up about 140, and stayed an extra hour and a half, which payed great dividends. Victor still has yet to pay over 500 in loans to Skittles, which is not at least 2 weeks late. This is deplorable! I thank the Nazi brothers for being so good about paying all of their loans and I think it has made our game much richer than originally.
My posts are my recollection of what happened. I am not perfect and my memories are tainted by my personal perception. If you think I am wrong or mistaken, write your own freakin posts. I don't want to hear at the game how I was totally wrong Skittles.... yeah I am naming names. All the members of the group have been invited to post, so get on it. The more posters there are the better the blog.
Stoney was very quite for most of the night accept when we got into a conversation about bankrolling etiquette and splits. He ended the night up only 63, but we also thank him for dealing for most of the night.

10/4/07 - A Really, Really, Late Night
We started the game at the normal time, which is 7pm minus the normal windshere factor of X3, meaning that poker players are never on time for anything and the game actually starts at 7:30. I was all geared up to bash some sucka's, but we had a dealing snafu. The normal dealers are DQ, Nazi1, and Ozzy, but none of them were there. I absolutely refuse to deal because I do too much other stuff, and it makes my neck hurt. So we ended up with Stoney as a dealer. I appreciate his effort, but he is a little slow on the draw when he is inebriated.
The game progressed like normal accept on the first 7 hands there were 5 big pairs... I ran into 4 of them. I made a couple of deals to save my skin but still ended up in the game 120 in the first hour. Not a good start to a night.
Jason a friend of Jerry's showed up pretty wasted and wanted to play. I was all for it because I had played with him a couple times before and was always super loose aggressive. Not that we need any more of that at the game, but it is always nice to have a new face firing chips at you. Jason must have been taking lessons from Jerry because he snug as a bug in a rug for the whole game. He stayed almost 3 hours and ended the night even. We busted Jerry for 40 when Stoney made an amazing call on him with ace rage, when Jerry was on a complete bluff. Better luck next time Jerry.
Redonkulatard showed up around 9pm, paid off some loans, played a bit of his normal sickly redonkulus style and ended owing more that he paid off. Very, very late in the game he was begging everyone to stay in because he was on a streak and coming back up, however it is hard to come out of a 280 hole playing .50/1 nl holdem at the end of the night. Most people with chips are playing tight and protecting them, and the rest of the people will surprise you as much as you are trying to surprise them.
Pip showed up, which was nice. He was fun to play with, but took my harsh criticisms, designed to put him on edge or on the defensive, way tooo seriously. Grow up.... and go count some pills. I thought he was playing pretty good. In one startling hand, he called Skittles down with 82 of spades trying to catch a flush draw with really bad odds, based on the paired board and the amount of money Skittles bet on the first two streets. I had seen both hands and knew what was happening and when Skittles gave up heart and refused to fire the river bullet he lost a 120 pot when his 67 was beat by an 82. He Should have fired one last time... even .50 would make 82 fold. They got into another confrontation about 30 mins later, and it was the same kind of deal... they both knew where they were in the pot but a lucky river card made Pip's hand. It was sick. In those two hands Skittle lost a little over 100.
The Bear played and had some bad luck early in the night. The Bear's main problem with the game is that she gets splitting migraines about 2 hours into it from the incessant bickering, yelling, chip shuffling, and country music. At about 1am she won a monster pot and got herself back in the black, when I saw this I knew she was feeling bad and told her to stop playing... This pissed everyone off. She was not sitting on a mountain of chips by any means, but she had recently won a couple of big ones. I get a serious ear full from skittles. She eventually ended up waiting another 30 mins before cashing out, and lost about 20 back to the table. I am real sorry guys... I will never say anything like that again. My ulterior motive were for her to lend me some money after she cashed out... All of that could have been your through me.
The cards ran pretty even... It was so nice. I got it all in when I was short stacked at about 22 with deuces against AK preflop and won. I got it all in with 99 against AK and won. I also saw QQ , and TT hold up against AK. It was pretty sick.
I got Redonkulatard all in with top pair against his second pair on the flop and he did not suck out, which is what he normally does. I limped in late position feeling a raise coming from one of the blinds and it happened. Genie raised it to 6.50 from the small blind... when it came back to me there had been 3 callers and about 25 total in the pot. I reraised to 22, Genie snap called and so did RTard. I was very unhappy. I had AQ and the flop came A9 blank. RTard moved in and I played it up a little bit thinking that if I was up against AK from Genie then I was screwed anyway and can't really get away from it, but if I was up against QQ then I might be able to suck him in by playing up the weakness of my hand a bit. It did not work... Genie had 33 or something and immediately folded after I called. RTard had K9, and I offered him a deal... his move in was 33, I told him he could take back 20 and forfeit the pot. He said, let me take all of my money back, I said make it 25, which is very very generous considering the odds involved with him sucking out on me. He said, "Screw you! All or nothing! Run it!" He lost, and seemed to be very upset about it. That is one hand in the life of the Redonkulatard.
Loans are truly out of control! For the last 3 weeks we have been putting IOU's for big winners to eat at the end of the night. I am pretty sure this is gonna have to stop. If there is no cash backing it, then you can't play it. Put up your car, watch, girlfriend, shiny bag of glass... anything! As long as it has some value to someone. This is all getting way to confusing and the last time I checked there were IOU's out in excess of 1k. All of this is backed by Skittles, and that is bad mojo... It only takes one bad week for the backer before the whole system collapses.
The game broke at 7am... That is right ladies and gentleturds, stop playing, quick shower, and straight to work. We are some pretty sick gamblers. I should have left at 6... I lost 40 in the last 40 mins that I played. I was very unhappy about it. Ended up bringing a 170 loss into a +100. I was very pleased with my results... but it took way more patience than I am used to.
I want to get on my soap box here for a minute cause we have some people in the club that are hard core advocates of inebreation of all kinds. More power to you, but let me say this... Every week, I have to be out in the garage early, I have to clean up, restack chips, count money, write and correct records, get up in the middle of a game to get chips for people, greet new players, and all sorts of miscelaneous junk. Now that is all just stuff I do for the club, I am not complaining about the work. What I do have a problem with is people who have to do nothing but sit in their chairs, play and fold cards, and enjoy themselves, but cannot seem to throw trash away, or keep the action going. This whole conversation started when Stoney get irritated with me bagging on innebriation. He is a big supporter, so he started talking about how it doesn't effect his reaction time and blaugh blaugh blagh.... What a freakin load. I sit at the table all night every week stone cold sober telling retards when it is their turn, or if they happen to be dealing to turn the next card over. For the love of haysoos! We should rig up a scientific experience. Sorry about all the run-on sentences... I ramble when I rant. If you have nothing to do but play, you better do that fast!
I have so much more that I want to say about this game but I don't want to go on typing all day long.

9/30/07 - The Party is Over!
Well the crew got together at Don Perico's to fill up their gas tanks before my annual drunken birthday cash game. People kept buying me drinks, and shots, and saying can't wait to see the drunken UFC rematch between you and Nazi2, which he totally punked out on. Believe me... I was drunk enough to do it, and he would not have won either. I was going all stand up.
We sat down and started playing at 8pm. Ndog, Bowenstein, Stoney, Vicky, Skittles, Dangles, The Bear, Da Mic, and Da Mic's 4 year old fetus. The fetus was tearing us all a new one pretty quick. He was tight so I kept attacking him knowing he would lay down good hands, but he just kept having spectacular hands, that he was almost willing to lay down.
I stopped drinking at 11pm, and that is when Skittles started. I do not remember how it happened, but Skittles got up 300 really fast. I was drooling on myself, looked-up and he had a huge stack of blacks. Holdem is fun when you are drunk, but all the other games are sad, because you do not have all of your higher brain functions.
Long story short, I drank a lot, made 80, The Bear got really sick and threw up on everything we owned, and I went inside to stay with her since she thought she was gonna die. Fun was had by all.

In A Land Far, Far Away
I couldn't agree more with the Dangles post. If you don't go and fuck yourself I will get on the amtrak and come kill all you motherfuckers and then take the ENTIRE pot (and you thought 30 was bad!).
No I haven't played in the 1-2 game up here because a group of these sick financial aid (yes that is probably where they get half of it... I know that's how Tuan Lee did it up at Sac) Asian gamblers decided to up it to a 2-5 and I gamble a little bit too much to lose a k just like that. Plus there is plenty of booze and dancing just a few blocks down.
The topic I am going to discuss (err vent) is about losing. I have been a losing player since the donk trip to the Morongo. And 2/3 of my online bankroll flew away despite my edge in a couple of big hands. Of course I am still a winner in your little east side gambler's paradise, but that means nothing when I can't take that down.
The point is I like winning, but playing sparingly and not having all the thrills of collecting Skittles' tears is not a winning combination. Unless I am donking it off to you bitches it is simply not worth my time unless I am going to hunker down and grind (which just isn't the route I want to go). Maybe sit and gos?
So yeah I'll play it up when I come back on Thanksgiving (you know that turkey won't call you with a 8 card flush draw on the turn!) and still take your money. But until then I'm going to frequent Yahoo games for a little ass pounding on the Go tables (and I'm not on top).
Losing sucks. Just ask VB. Your name is not Bowenstein!
The Roobot is (randomly) out!!!
